Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone fun facts

Harry Potter is one of the most successful book and movie franchises in history. Here are some strange, weird and quirky facts about the “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”. Every fan needs to know these fun facts about the movie.

1.The last scene was the very first scene.

In the final scene, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were seen saying goodbye to Hagrid and Hogwarts while board the Hogwarts Express. This was actually the first scene ever shot in the “Harry Potter” film series was actually the last scene chronologically in “The Sorcerer’s Stone.”

“The thing we shot on the first day of Sorcerer’s Stone was the final train sequence where Harry looks at Hogwarts and Emma, Dan, and Rupert are huddled outside of the train,” director Christopher Columbus told Entertainment Weekly’s Binge Podcast.

2. Alan Rickman was the first to know the backstory of Snape.

Alan Rickman was hand-picked to play Snape by J.K. Rowling. To help him play the role well, the author gaved special instructions to him for his character. He also know all the vital details of Snape’s back story which was not revealed until the last part of the series.

3. Child actors do their actual schoolwork on the movie.

To make it look real, the child actors actually do their schoolwork while filming the movie. That’s acting and getting things done at the same time!

4. Hagrid’s Hut was real.

The scenes at Hagrid’s Hut were filmed on a small patch of land in London not far from Leavesden Studios. However, the hut was demolished after the final shoot to avoid fans from gathering in the area.

5. The Mirror of Erised inscription

The inscription around the Mirror of Erised says: “Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi”. Reading the inscription backwards it says, “I show not your face but your heart’s desire.”

6. Platform 9 3/4 was filmed at King’s Cross.

However, it was filmed on platforms 4 and 5. J.K. Rowling. The author meant the location to be between 9 and 10 which was actually the less grand suburban platforms. Hence, they filmed in platforms 4 and 5. But there’s an actual “Platform 9 3/4” at King’s Cross located in the walkway area between the real platforms 9 and 10.

7. Filmmakers tried to match the look of Harry and Hermione

The filmmakers wanted to match the kid’s appearances to how the novel describes them. They let Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) wear green-colored contact lenses, and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) wear fake buck teeth. However, Dan’s eyes reacted strongly to the contacts, and Emma couldn’t talk properly with the fake teeth.

8. Harry’s scar

Some people insist that the scar is at the center of his forehead. But J.K. Rowling said that this should be off center. In the books, the exact location of the scar was not specified.

9. Philosopher’s Stone or Sorcerer’s Stone?

The movie is known as “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” everywhere except the USA. Every scene in which the Philosopher’s Stone was mentioned was filmed twice. The actors would say “Philosopher’s” once the film it again with them saying “Sorcerer’s.”Or this was redubbed. This was done to keep the films consistent with the book series. The US publisher, Scholastic changed the title to “Sorcerer’s Stone”. J.K. Rowling’ said she regreted giving them the permission to do that.

10. The Hogwarts motto

“Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus”, means “never tickle a sleeping dragon”. This means if there is danger (or a dangerous individual/group/situation) ahead of you, or you are threatened by it, don’t go and provoke it!
